2012   FESTIVAL SUMMER SCHOOL BURSARY INFORMATION

As part of our continuing support for young performers, we are delighted to offer bursaries towards the cost of a Residential Summer School in the Dance discipline. This bursary will be for competitors in the Junior section of the festival.

The bursary will have a value of approximately 2/3rds of the Residential Summer School fee and a contribution towards travelling expenses may also be considered.

Applicants must be within the age range stated for each Summer School and whilst all candidates would be expected to be of a good all-round standard, the successful applicants will not necessarily be first place prize winners.

To be considered for a bursary, a candidate must have entered and competed in at least one Dance class in the IWMCF in 2012 and must complete this application form and return it to the secretary by 31st January 2012.

Following the completion of the festival, a specially selected panel will meet to consider each applicant alongside their festival performance(s) and the adjudicators’ comments. A final short list will be presented to the Executive Committee of the IWMCF, who will make the final selection for the bursary in 2012. No young person may be related to a member of the special selection panel.

Dance Summer School

The Summer School that we have chosen is run by the Urdang academy in London. Draft dates Monday 23rd July to Friday 27th July 2012

For students: 14-21 years

This is a fantastic course in dance with an option to either study musical theatre or specialise in dance. Each day consists of a ballet class, jazz class and then a choice of either a dance or musical theatre workshop, to be decided before the course commences. As with our West End Workshop all the sessions are taken by our own specialist teachers in conjunction with West End performers, professional choreographers and musical directors. There is a demonstration on the final day so students can observe each others’ work and parents can see what they’ve been up to! At the end of the week all students take home their own Urdang T-shirt! This flexible course allows students to focus on the aspects of theatre which they find most inspiring.
