Festival Summer School Bursary Information

As part of our continuing support for young performers, we are delighted to be able to offer a bursary towards the cost of a Residential Summer School for Dance.  This bursary will be for competitors in the Junior section of the festival.

For 2010 the bursary will have a value of approximately 2/3rds of the Residential Summer School fee and a contribution towards travelling expenses may also be considered.

Applicants must be within the age range stated for the Summer School and whilst all candidates would be expected to be of a good all-round standard, the successful applicant will not necessarily be first place prize winners. To be considered for a bursary, a candidate must have entered and competed in at least one Dance Class of the IWMCF in 2010 and must have completed this application form and returned it to Mrs C Booth at the above address by the 1st December 2009.

Following the completion of the festival, a specially selected panel will meet to consider each applicant alongside their festival performance(s)and the adjudicators’ comments.  A final short list will be presented to the Executive Committee of the IWMCF, who will make the final selection for the bursary.

NB:

No young person applying may be related to a member of the special selection panel.

The festival committee hope to continue offering bursaries after 2010 but the frequency and value of these may be subject to change.

The festival committee reserve the right to hold a bursary over to be awarded at a future date.

The Summer School that we have chosen is run by the Urdang academy in London. Draft dates Monday 26th July to Friday 30th July 2010

Here follows brief information provided by Urdang Academy:

Students over the age of 13 receive a daily Ballet class, Jazz class and then choose in the afternoon whether they want to study Dance repertoire or Musical Theatre Repertoire. All of the classes and workshops are taught by professionals from the world of dance and musical theatre but they are also all known to us for their high teaching skills. We have excellent facilities as we have moved into a newly refurbished building with 7 purpose built studios just down the road from the Sadlers Wells theatre in London. Students will work towards an informal demonstration for parents at the end of the week. This year (2009) it looks as though our dance repertoire workshops will be taught by a dancer from Matthew Bourne’s company and one of the leads in Billy Elliot so the workshops will be great.

The tuition costs this year are 225.00 for the week and the accommodation is in the region of £100.00 for board including breakfast, £50.00 for the chaperone and £75.00 towards lunch and evening meals for the week. A total of £450.00 altogether (before bursary).

Successful candidates will be notified by 30th April 2010 at the latest.
