THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY TO
BOTH THE SENIOR & JUNIOR SECTIONS
(To be read in conjunction with the Festival Rules in the
White Section)
1.
The IWMCF has entered into an agreement with the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society (ALCS). This means that entrants do not have to seek
copyright permission for any poetry, prose or solo dramatic items performed to
a time limit of 10 minutes.
2.
Solo dramatic items must be announced with title and author
at the time of performance to qualify for copyright indemnity and the performer
must not change the words or gender of the character.
3.
Duologues and group dramatic activity are not covered by this
agreement and copyright for these items should be sought by performers at the
time of entry.
4.
A Team is defined as between 4 and 15 persons in total, unless
otherwise stated; e.g. any number allowed in Classes 439, 440, 441 and
495.
5.
No competitor may compete more than once in any SOLO
Class.
6.
Time Limits must be strictly adhered to or the performance
will be stopped.
7.
Anything of an adult or explicit nature should be brought to
the attention of a member of the Speech & Drama Committee as soon as is
practicable or, failing that, to the Table Steward or Adjudicator on the day, prior to performance. The Committee reserves the right to stop a
performance if deemed offensive.
8.
Curtained background - where provided - will be used for all
Classes.
9.
Essential hand props are permitted in all Classes except Miming, where they are
prohibited.
10.
In
the Miming Classes, a short sub-title may be given.
11.
In
the Miming Classes, background music may be used as a stimulus.
12.
Costume
is not allowed in the Miming Classes.
13.
Costume
is optional in Drama and Duologue Classes.
14.
Plays:
the Title, Type and Period of the play (e.g. Comedy, Drama etc. and Modern,
Restoration etc.) along with the performance time must be stated on the Entry
Form.
15.
In
the Drama and Senior Duologue Classes, a limit of 5 minutes is allowed for
setting the stage after it has been cleared by the previous team.
16.
The
Closing Date for all entries is: 1st December

2012 FESTIVAL
SUMMER SCHOOL BURSARY INFORMATION
SPEECH AND DRAMA
As part of
our continuing support for young performers, we are delighted to offer
bursaries towards the cost of a Residential Summer School in the Speech
& Drama discipline.
This bursary will be for competitors in the Junior
section of the
festival.
The bursary
will have a value of approximately 2/3rds of the Residential Summer School fee
and a contribution towards travelling expenses may also be considered.
Applicants
must be within the age range stated for each Summer School and whilst all
candidates would be expected to be of a good all-round standard, the successful
applicants will not necessarily be first place prize winners.
To be
considered for a bursary, a candidate must have entered and competed in at
least one Speech and Drama class in the IWMCF in 2012 and must complete this
application form and return it to the secretary by 31st
January 2012.
Following the
completion of the festival, a specially selected panel will meet to consider
each applicant alongside their festival performance(s) and the adjudicators’
comments. A final short list will be presented to the Executive Committee of
the IWMCF, who will make the final selection for the bursary in 2012. No young
person may be related to a member of the special selection panel.
