SIX WORD NEWSPAPER HEADLINE In conjunction with the Isle of Wight County Press whose Editor will judge all entries and provide feedback. First and Second Prizes to be awarded in each Age Group |
|
Ý446B |
11 to 13 years |
1. Intention to enter Classes 446A and 446B has to be declared on the general Speech and Drama Entry Form which is to be found at the end of the Yellow Section of the Syllabus. The set fee for this Class of only £3.00 has to accompany the general Speech and Drama Entry Form which – in common with all other Festival Classes - has to be submitted by the Closing Date of 1st December 2009.
2. Thereafter, from February 1st 2010, a copy of the set news item for which the headline is to be written will be provided by the Isle of Wight County Press and can be viewed on the IWMCF website, with additional paper copies obtained if required from the Entries’ Secretary (Mrs B. Joyce Johnson, 18 Ward Avenue, Cowes, Isle of Wight, PO31 8AY).
3. Competitors are asked to study the news item for their particular age group and, as a result, compose a suitable headline of up to SIX words – every word to count.
4. Once competitors have composed their newspaper headline – which is to be entirely their own work – they are to fill in the dedicated Entry Form which is both downloadable from the IWMCF website and is also available in paper copy positioned at the back of the Yellow Section of this Syllabus.
5. Please note ONLY ONE ENTRY PER COMPETITOR is allowed.
6. The aforementioned dedicated Entry Form (or a photocopy thereof), duly completed and countersigned by a responsible adult, is then to be returned to the Entries’ Secretary by 20th February 20th 2010. Please note that intention to enter must already have been declared back in December 2009, along with the attendant Entry Fee. No late entries or monies will be taken at this February 2010 submission date which is solely for the submission of the headline itself.
7. In the case of a school’s block entry, the address of the school may be substituted for that of the individual entrant but please note that the prize(s) will be awarded to the individual concerned. First and Second Prizes in each age group will be awarded.
8. To enable adequate time for judging by the Editor of the Isle of Wight County Press, the First and Second placed persons of each age group will be notified after the 2010 Festival itself and invited to a Special Awards Ceremony.
9. Certificates will be awarded to every entrant and distributed by the most economical means possible.
10. The decision of the Editor of the Isle of Wight County Press, in conjunction with the Festival Committee, is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into. The winning headline(s) in each category will be published on the IWMCF website, along with feedback on the competition.
